KEY POINTS:
A year after it was due to open, Auckland's troubled $80 million Vector Arena has finally announced it will be opening its doors in March.
The 12,000-seat indoor arena on Quay St will host its first public event, international rock band Supernova, on March 24.
Ratepayers have contributed $68 million towards the $80 million arena, which has been plagued by building problems and hostility between the builder, Mainzeal, and Australian operator, Quay Park Arena Management, in the country's first big public-private partnership.
Contractors on the project revealed to the Herald in January that construction of the roof was complicated by Auckland's warm, damp climate, creating serious weather-tightness, humidity and condensation issues.
Workers were sent from the construction in April last year when structural problems were found with the main curved roof truss.
