Stonefields, the new $2 billion town centre rising in Auckland, scooped an award for a firm of engineers, surveyors and planners this month.
The NZ Institute of Surveyors gave a silver award to Woods Consultants for its involvement in three stages of Stonefields.
Mark Williams, a director of Woods and a surveyor, said the business had been working on the project for eight years.
"We had to design the surface. We had a raw, abandoned quarry and Todd had an arrangement with Fletcher Residential to develop that. We had to model the master plans for the site so that we knew that we could deliver what was planned. We had to figure it all out before we started," he said.
Woods designed the stormwater management system, including the ponds and pipe water reticulation.
Designing an 11km sewer reticulation system, watermains 19.3km long, 14.9km of roading and a common service trench were some of the challenges, Williams said.
Stonefields is Auckland's largest housing subdivision to start from scratch in the middle of well-established city suburbs.
The top award went to Kapiti Coast surveying firm Landlink of Waikanae for a development project on a 22ha site where 67 housing sites were created at Bishops Vineyard near Levin.
Andrew Stirling, a director of Axis Survey Consultants, said this was the second year the awards were presented.
