NZ's biggest apartment plan unveiled

The $300 million 800-unit Albany Rose Garden Apartment has been touted as New Zealand's largest residential apartment development.

A new $300 million 800-unit Albany project, promoted as New Zealand's largest residential apartment development, has just been announced.

Martin Cooper of Harcourts said the Albany Rose Garden Apartment project was the country's biggest scheme of its kind and a launch event is being planned for tomorrow.

Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce was scheduled to attend, Cooper said.

Chinese developers plan to build the huge scheme, with shops and offices, on bare land at 25 Don Mckinnon Dr.

Prices for one bedroom apartments will start from $399,000 and initial images have been released showing a series of towers.

Advertising promotes the location, even though it near Auckland's northern outskirts.

Advertising mentions proximity to Westfield Albany and its movie theatre complex.

"New Zealand's largest shopping mall is over the road, with all the shops and cafes and you could ever want and a supermarket and cinema too.

"An Olympic swimming pool is planned to open in 2016 and a sports stadium and concert venue is just a short stroll.

"With Albany park-and-ride bus station two minutes' walk away, you can be in downtown Auckland in less than 20 minutes.

"But everything you need is even closer to home at the Rose Garden Apartments," the ad says.
