Aucklanders planning to build are being warned to be prepared for a frustrating wait for permission.
It is taking Auckland City Council up to 50 working days to process building consent applications.
Environment Group Manager Jenny Oxley acknowledges the situation is frustrating many people, but she says there is no quick fix.
She says Auckland's construction boom and a nationwide shortage of skilled staff are being compounded by the introduction of the new Building Act three months ago.
Ms Oxley says the Act requires more detailed information to be submitted with consent applications, particularly in relation to weather tightness.
