Burgeoning membership has prompted Les Mills World of Fitness in central Auckland to expand its largest gym.
Facilities at 186 Victoria St are under increasing pressure, particularly from clients who want to drive to the gym.
So the gym has applied to the Auckland City Council to build two new buildings on its site: one an extended gym with a swimming pool, aerobics rooms and offices for staff and management, the other a parking building with ground-floor shops.
The swimming pool building will have room for yoga, pilates, self-defence, cardio and warm-up areas.
The three-level pool building will have staff rooms in the basement, a 20m pool on its ground level, cafe and shops on level one, offices, training and conference facilities on level two and further offices on level three.
The four-level carparking building will have shops and 311 carparks.
Gym members get access to 394 free parks, 131 on the site and a further 263 at two off-site locations nearby.
Noel Lane Architects designed the project.
