Two consortiums led by Italian construction companies have bid for a US$5.53 billion contract to build the world's largest single-span suspension bridge.
The structure will span the 3.3km between mainland Italy's toe to the island of Sicily and will be nearly three times the length of San Francisco's Golden Gate.
