Fletcher Building's new chief executive, Jonathan Ling, today announced a rejig of the building products division.
He said the size of the division made separation sensible.
Chris Ellis was appointed as chief executive to one of the two divisional roles.
The reorganisation had created a new steel division comprising the rollforming and coating, long steel products and EasySteel business units.
The building products division will include the insulation, metal roof tiles, plasterboard business units, plus the aluminium, sinkware and access flooring businesses.
Mr Ellis, general manager of Winstone Aggregates, had been with Fletcher Building for 16 years.
