KEY POINTS:
Auckland developer Patrick Fontein has won international awards for his $540 million residential project in Orewa.
Fontein, who is building 750 houses at Kensington Park, a former camping ground in the seaside town north of Auckland, scooped a trifecta of CNBC Asia Pacific awards for the best overall development, best architecture and best property marketing campaign.
The housing estate is the largest and most expensive under development in New Zealand and was partly inspired by Florida's Seaside, a town used in the movie The Truman Show.
Developers from 64 countries entered the awards and Fontein will pick up his prizes in Singapore in July.
Connal Townsend, chief executive of the New Zealand Property Council, said the awards were well-regarded and Fontein had competed against huge developments in Australia, China, India, Thailand and Japan.
Residents have so far moved into 15 houses at Kensington Park.
