Around 41 new hotels are planned for Auckland in the next five years, bringing 6500 extra rooms to the city, a report from Horwath HTL says.
Projecting through to 2023, Horwath's Wim Ruepert said that 12 hotel projects were now under construction that would bring 1800 new rooms.
"We have identified 41 hotel projects in various stages that are planned to open over the next five years with a total 6500 rooms. If all these projects proceed, this will represent an increase of approximately 89 per cent of the current major hotel supply in Auckland," Ruepert's report said.
Dean Humphries, Colliers International's national hotels director for New Zealand and the South Pacific, has named some of the planned projects in an update on the hotel development pipeline.
Under construction in Auckland now is the 130-room Sofitel So, 152-room Sebel Auckland Manukau, 255-room Four Points by Sheraton, 195-room Park Hyatt, 300-room SkyCity Horizon Hotel and 104-room Britomart Hotel.
