KEY POINTS:
Honey products company Comvita has launched its Medihoney wound-dressing range of products in the United States.
Comvita said the brand was launched by its US partner, Derma Sciences, at a skin and wound care symposium in Nashville. Comvita has a 14 per cent stake in publicly owned Derma Sciences, 10 per cent on a fully diluted basis.
Comvita chief executive Brett Hewlett said the launch paved the way for a global platform of new products based on medical honey. Research on manuka honey was also presented, showing improved healing and infection control rates, including reductions in methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and positive results for diabetic ulcers.
News reports in the US had also told of Medihoney products being used in Iraq by US military personnel to treat burns. Shares in Comvita fell 13c to $2.90, on par with the year low in July.
