Chinese web leader soars

Chinese web search leader Baidu's first-quarter net income rose 143 per cent to 85.5 million yuan ($15.2 million), sending its shares up 21 per cent to US$135.

Baidu controlled 62 per cent of China's web search market in late 2006.
