As the arguments drift on about the best location for Auckland's rugby stadium, the situation in the nation's capital is booming.
Wellington's Westpac Stadium has reported a surplus of $2.28 million for the year to June.
That was slightly down on the $2.5m profit the previous year.
The stadium trust's annual report puts the hefty profit down to successful marketing, noting two key one-off events - the Rolling Stones concert and a test match on the Lions' rugby tour.
The stadium is also the venue for Wellington and Hurricanes rugby matches, the IRB rugby sevens tournament and a number of cricket fixtures.
The trust say they are planning to spend $6 million over the next five years to accommodate changes required for the rugby and cricket world cups, scheduled for 2011 and 2015 respectively.
