The grand $4.4 million Remuera home of bankrupt Bridgecorp boss Rod Petricevic is for sale, promoted as a safe haven away from the world.
Rod and Mary Petricevic stand to make $3.4 million - QV records show they paid just $988,800 in 2001 when the property was worth $1.8 million.
Now, they could make a big one-off windfall profit if the house fetches its full valuation of about $4.4 million at the end of this month.
The out-of-favour businessman's century-old character house, for tender by May 31, is advertised as offering a stately, two-level "peaceful, private world, way, way beyond the ordinary".
Agent Leila MacDonald says the kitchen has a sweeping 4.5m Carrara marble bench. French doors open to wrap-around verandahs overlooking a landscaped garden and pool.
This year it was reported Mr Petricevic planned to put the home on the market to raise funds to defend allegations his family trust owed $2.2 million to a Bridgecorp subsidiary.
In February, the Herald said Bridgecorp subsidiary Navigator Finance claimed the R.M.Petricevic Family Trust owed it $2.2 million. The trust's lawyers said the money was an advance, not a loan.
The family mansion in Remuera was owned by the trust, which put forward a proposal to sell in order to raise funds, it was reported then.
Advertising shows French-style antique furniture, thick drapes, polished floors, large outdoor dining and sun areas, formal dining room with rich red walls and gilt-edged mirrors, a study with antique leather furniture, Persian rugs in reception areas, large master bedroom with fireplace and a bathroom with leopard-print rugs.
"Beautifully detailed living areas flow from the sumptuously elegant lounge and dining space to an exquisite modern Lawrence Sumich-designed family addition," goes the advertising.
"Opposite King's Prep, metres from Remuera village, the consummate family home. There is nothing else like it! View this property and fall in love!"
The house, on the corner of Remuera and Omahu Rds, stands on a 1689ha section. Viewings are by appointment only.
