Justice Minister Simon Power is expected to brief Cabinet today on "where to from here", following the death of Allan Hubbard.
The 83-year-old founder of South Canterbury Finance died on Friday after a head-on crash near Oamaru.
Hubbard was due in court next month on 50 charges, following an investigation by the Serious Fraud Office.
The Prime Minister said Simon Power have been meeting with Crown lawyers.
"Lawyers are working through that position of what that might all mean now that Mr Hubbard's tragically been killed. I'm not in a position to make any comments at this stage but he might be in a position to give us an oral update at Cabinet,'' he said.
