BNZ's Harbour Quays building won't reopen for months.
A spokesman said it was initially believed it would take weeks to fix the damage caused by Monday's 7.8 magnitude quake, but today the bank announced to staff they would not be back in their offices for months.
"Their welfare is our paramount consideration. We will not rush this process or commit to a date this early on.
"Accordingly, we are working through finding places for our people to work from and would like to extend our thanks to the many businesses who have called us and offered us their spaces. It is heartening that the spirit of support is thriving despite the challenges facing the city."
Fletcher Building would oversee the repairs, the spokesman said.
