Virgin-Etihad link approved

Australia's competition regulator gave its interim approval yesterday to an airline alliance between Virgin Blue and Abu Dhabi's Etihad Airways, noting that the deal would add capacity between Australia and Abu Dhabi.

The regulator blocked an alliance between Virgin Blue and Air New Zealand on flights between Australia and New Zealand this month, saying that it would have harmed competition on that route.
