Qantas' low-cost subsidiary Jetstar has obtained full regulatory approval to fly internationally for the first time, completing preparations for the launch of transtasman flights directly from Christchurch on December 1.
Jetstar will base two Airbus A320 aircraft at Christchurch and fly to four destinations in Australia. Each plane carries 177 passengers. Most full-service Qantas flights have been pulled off the routes.
Pilots and cabin crew for the Jetstar planes will be based in Christchurch. The airline said the operation would create about 100 jobs.
Thumbs up for Jetstar launch
