CANBERRA: The federal Government has demanded Sydney Airport lift its game after the competition watchdog rated it the country's worst large airport.
Federal Transport Minister Anthony Albanese, meanwhile, will advance a Productivity Commission inquiry into airport price monitoring.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission says Sydney Airport charges the highest average prices per passenger.
"The indications are that Sydney Airport has increased profits by permitting service quality to fall below that which the airlines reasonably expect," commission chairman Graeme Samuel said as he released the annual report on airport performance. Albanese was not impressed by the airport's performance.
"It has to lift its game when it comes to making sure that it's looking after the users at the airport," he said yesterday.
The Productivity Commission was due to finalise its inquiry and report to the Government in 2012.
"As a result of this ACCC report I have asked the commission to bring that forward to as soon as possible," Albanese said.
