Former Fletcher Challenge executive Shane Warbrick is to be acting chief financial officer for Air New Zealand.
Mr Warbrick replaces Adam Moroney, who leaves the airline on December 21.
Mr Moroney joined Air New Zealand in February, having followed his Qantas colleague, former chief executive Gary Toomey, across the Tasman.
Mr Warbrick was group investment director of the Fletcher Challenge Group.
Air New Zealand spokesman Mark Champion said the airline's constitution required a chief financial officer.
Mr Warbrick would have an acting role until the search for a permanent chief financial officer was completed.
Mr Champion said he did not know if Mr Warbrick was a candidate for the permanent position.
Last Friday, Air NZ named Nelson businessman John Palmer as its new chairman. A shortlist for a new chief executive has been compiled.
