Safe Air today said it had secured a deal to upgrade RNZAF P3 Orion aircraft - the second major defence contract the Blenheim based Air New Zealand subsidiary has announced this week.
The $27 million contract is to support the upgrade of the P3 Orion aircraft fleet being carried out by United States firm L-3 Communications Integrated Systems.
Earlier this week Safe Air said it had won a sub-contrac t with L-3 Communications Spar Aerospace to support the upgrade of RNZAF C-130 Hercules aircraft.
The combined value of the two contracts was close to $52 million Safe Air general manager Jeremy Remacha said.
The first P3 Orion upgrade will take place in Texas while work on another five aircraft will be completed at Safe Air over a five year period.
The work is expected to create some additional jobs at Safe Air.
