The competition watchdog has given interim approval for a proposed joint venture between Qantas Airways and American Airlines to co-ordinate flights to and from the United States.
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission's approval comes two days after Virgin Blue secured powerhouse Singapore Airlines as its Asian partner, subject to approval.
A draft decision would come in August or September.
