Jetstar takes delivery of its first Boeing 787 aircraft today for use initially on Australian domestic routes and later on international routes from New Zealand.
Jetstar's 787 will carry 335 passengers (capacity for full service airlines is about 290 passengers) but says the minimum 76cm seat pitch or separation is maintained.
"We've always said that the economy seating configuration of the 787 would be similar to that of our existing A330 fleet. The new economy seats are a slimmer design and include seatback entertainment," a spokesman said.
The 787 was certified and could accommodate 335 passengers, including a 21-seat business-class cabin, comfortably.
"We have seven years' experience operating value-based, long-haul services and getting to know our long-haul customers. Our configuration has been designed to best meet our customer demand," the spokesman said
