Air New Zealand has revealed its newest luxury lounge, the very slick Koru business lounge at Auckland Airport.

The Air New Zealand Star Alliance lounge will be a welcome upgrade for business class passengers, who will get a kick out of the lounge's inspired design, including a living plant wall and a "long white cloud" themed dining area.

Media were given a preview this morning, complete with a live jazz band.

Views to the runway and the sea beyond can be seen from an entire wall of windows, letting in light that makes the room feel airy and open.

The new lounge is part of a major upgrade program for airport lounges. Two other swanky new travel lounges have been opened by the Star Alliance and Air New Zealand recently, in Sydney and Los Angeles.

Air New Zealand chief executive Chris Luxon said the companies had invested $100 million over four years to make the upgrades.

He said after talking with customers, it became clear what they wanted was "a haven" to relax in and get away from the hubbub of the airport. With distinct areas for families, business people and quiet time, there are plenty of havens within a haven for customers to choose from.

"There are 24 different types of seats," boasted Luxon, "and over 300 power points and USB ports."

The new lounge also has the capacity to hold up to 60 per cent more travellers than the old lounge, Luxon said.

A fully stocked bar and wide array of fresh, healthy eating options are the icing on the cake for the impressive upgrade.
