New Zealand baggage-handling technology firm Glidepath has scored its second big North American deal this year, announcing a US$21 million ($33.5 million) contract with Lynden Pindling International Airport at Nassau, in the Bahamas.
The company, which doubled manufacturing capacity at its Dallas, Texas, plant last year, will supply a fully integrated baggage-handling, sorting and explosives detection system at the airport.
The three-stage project, due for completion in 2013, begins with supplying the airport's new 55-counter check-in at the US departures terminal with an 1800-bags-an-hour system.
This year the company also won a $60 million contract with Nashville International Airport within days of the Obama Administration announcing US$500 million of investment in airport security infrastructure.
Glidepath has also completed installation of a new baggage-handling and security-screening system at Renoe-Tahoe International Airport.
Chairman and managing director Ken Stevens said the outlook for the company in the US remained positive in spite of the global recession.
"We have a focused strategy based on identifying and pursuing the best prospects for contracts that fit the Glidepath offering and then putting 100 per cent effort into winning those target projects. Our track record of creditable incremental growth, along with the spate of recent wins and healthy order book, is evidence of the success of this approach."
Glidepath was also targeting business in other markets including India, where it has opened a Mumbai office, Australia, Southeast Asia and China.
