Dubai-based Emirates Airlines is buying another eight Airbus A380s, bringing its total order for the double-decker aircraft to 55.
The deal is worth an estimated US$2.6 billion.
Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum said the A380 is a technologically-advanced plane that fits with the airline's growth strategy. He said the latest order will give Emirates some of the lowest seat costs in the industry and the planes offer more passenger comfort and amenities on board.
Emirates has 118 wide-bodied aircraft on its order book worth more than US$30 billion.
They include 51 Boeing 777s and 12 Boeing 747 Freighters.
