Frustration at delays has led to near riots in some Chinese airports but when I was grounded at Beijing for three hours without a word of explanation there was meek acceptance by fellow passengers.
It was raining and Beijing is prone to severe summer storms but there appeared to be several chances for our flight to Guangzhou to take off.
Crew on the China Southern Airlines plane served a supper while we sat on the runway apron but no reasons were offered for the delay. I missed my flight from Guangzhou to Auckland and although the airline rebooked me for the next evening it was a reminder about having a flexible schedule when flying in China.
