Auckland Airport experienced a 7.1 per cent increase in domestic passenger numbers in May compared to a year ago.
"The domestic growth continues largely to be attributable to Jetstar driving higher passenger numbers than Qantas last year," the airport operator said.
The number of international passengers rose 1.8 per cent in May compared to a year ago.
"Business and conference traffic continues to grow strongly over last year at 17.4 per cent," the airport said.
The number of passengers from Australia fell 3.7 per cent in May from a year ago but the airport said numbers were still well ahead in the year to date.
Passenger traffic from Japan grew 88.7 per cent after swine flu reduced the number of travellers last year.
