KEY POINTS:
Air New Zealand has sourced two extra aircraft to meet strong domestic demand, and will shelve plans to increase the numbers of seats in existing planes.
Discounting and promotions had helped domestic passenger numbers by 5 per cent for the first five months of 2007, which the airline had to increase capacity to cater for, domestic general manager Bruce Parton said.
Because of a global shortage of new jet aircraft and long delivery time, Air NZ had decided to add extra rows of seating to its existing 737s while it waited for two additional aircraft due in late 2008.
"After much hard work we have been able to source these additional two aircraft six months ahead of schedule, with delivery planned for early next year," Mr Parton said.
