Air New Zealand is on the hunt for a chief digital officer to join its top executive team.
In a note to staff, chief executive Christopher Luxon said the new CDO role was part of a rethink on how the airline approached digital technology development, delivery and innovation.
Luxon visited Silicon Valley firms earlier this month and met 10 of the world's top digital companies including Google, Facebook, Instagram, Platfora and Tilt.
"Over the past 18 months we have placed considerable attention on the areas of digital and innovation as we seek to position the airline for continued success. We now have an extremely clear view on how we need to best align our capabilities to seize the opportunities ahead and to take another step toward being a truly great company," Luxon said.
"The executive has been thinking about how best to unleash digital transformation across the business for some time and made the decision to create this role in part based on a review of IT led by chief information officer Julia Raue."
