Three New Zealand seafood companies are combining their muscle under one roof to meet processing requirements.
Sanford, Sealord Group and Kiwigreen Investments have set up North Island Mussel Processors to process mussels at a newly acquired facility in Greerton, Tauranga.
Mussels farmed in Coromandel by the shareholders will be processed at the site under their respective brands. The Kiwigreen facility was chosen for its export port location and access to a larger labour pool.
"With a high New Zealand dollar and increasing international expansion of aquaculture, the New Zealand industry needs to maintain its international competitiveness," the new processing company said.
