Feeding working dogs "premium" commercial dog food rather than "farm kill" could save farmers an average of $2350 a dog over 10 years, says Simon Laming, senior vet at Oamaru Vet Services.
He said commercial dog foods were cheaper than farm kill, would save on vet bills by improving animal health and would increase the dogs' lifespan.
