BLENHEIM - Marlborough mussels have hit the spot at the world's largest seafood event.
Blenheim couple Trish and Chris Redwood were told this week that they had taken out two of seven awards at fifth annual European Seafood Exposition, the world's most prestigious seafood competition, in Brussels.
"It's very exciting," Mr Redwood said. " Now we just hope it translates into orders. "
Mr Redwood has been growing greenshell mussels in the Marlborough Sounds for 26 years.
Their product, omega seafood cooked gourmet mussels, was entered by their export partner L&B Taspac.
The Blenheim family business PHR Processing Ltd won the Prix d'Elite for innovation in new seafood products in both the food service and retail categories.
They also won the foodservice category, the ready-to -eat product appealing to industry buyers, chefs, and seafood industry experts.
