KEY POINTS:
New Zealand's largest locally owned software exporter Orion Health has made the list of top 100 healthcare IT companies in the United States.
The only New Zealand-owned company to make Healthcare Informatics' annual list, Orion has moved up seven positions to 70th. It was ranked 77th in the HCI 100 last year, up from its debut entry in 2006 in 97th place.
The HCI 100 ranks the top 100 healthcare IT vendors according to their 2007 revenue.
Orion chief executive Ian McCrae said the list included the health technology elite of the US market.
"This ranking is recognition that Orion Health is making significant progress in solving complex health data integration issues in North America," he said.
Its success could be traced to the increasing need for data integration in the medical community as health organisations moved to a more patient-centric view while grappling with an increase in chronic disease.
Founded by McCrae in 1993, the company last week reported a consolidated gross revenue of $53 million for the 2007/08 financial year.
It also revealed plans to list on the sharemarket, although McCrae said the move was still a few years away.
