Fonterra said milk collection across New Zealand for the month of June reached 9 million kg of milksolids, 10.1 per cent higher than the same month last year.
North Island collection in June reached 7m kg -- 13 per cent ahead of June last year. Volumes in the North Island were up on last season's as more farmers continued to milk in winter.
South Island collection reached 2m kg -- 2 per cent ahead of June last year. A small number of South Island farmers provided milk in winter for internal supply.
Milk collection at Fonterra's Australian operation for the 12 months to June 30 reached 120m kg, meeting the same level as the previous season, despite being down considerably in the spring.
Fonterra's Australian production increased in the second half due to more favourable market and pasture growth conditions, along with additional farms electing to supply the cooperative. As a result, Australian collection in June was 16 per cent head of the prevous June's collection.
