Baggage-handling technology firm BCS was named Exporter of the Year (for total sales over $35 million) at the Auckland Export Awards last night.
Auckland-based BCS employs 270 staff across its New Zealand, Australian and United States sites. It claims to have a 75 per cent market share in Australia.
Air New Zealand recently incorporated BCS's software into its domestic departure systems at Auckland and Christchurch Airports.
In addition, BCS has supplied its systems and services to more than 30 countries including Morocco, Egypt, Greece, France and Vietnam.
Health product manufacturer Lifestream International won the Exporter of the Year Award (for total sales under $35 million).
Its products, which include spirulina and aloe vera juice, are exported to over 20 markets around the world.
The Emerging Exporter Award was won by mobile banking firm M-Com, while the Deal of the Year went to gas compressor maker Flotech for the contract it secured to supply its products to power-generation sites in Brazil's Amazon jungle.
Convener of judges Hugh Cronwright said that despite a sluggish economy, it had been a strong year for entries.
