Ryman Healthcare has the green light for a $100 million Pukekohe retirement village for about 400 people south of Auckland.
Simon Challies, chief executive, said Auckland Council had granted the resource consent for the village
Last year, Ryman said it expected to be marketing new two-bedroom townhouses there from just under $400,000 and residents would come from Pukekohe, Waiuku, Tuakau, Karaka and surrounding areas.
The Franklin District has Auckland region's fastest growing retired population, Challies said, and retiree numbers have grown by 50 per cent to 9000 in the past seven years. The village will include independent townhouses, apartments and an aged care centre or hospital and "resort-style amenities" such as a gym, a bowling green, a beauty salon, a chapel, a movie theatre, a bar and an indoor swimming pool.
