Cloudy Bay, majority-owned by French luxury goods company Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton, has bought three more blocks in Marlborough, lifting its total vineyard area in the region to about 700ha.
Overseas Investment Office information showed Cloudy Bay paid $2.3 million for 12.2ha of vineyards owned by Cellier Le Brun, which is owned by Resene Paints, The Dominion Post reported today.
Resene also sold a 25.64ha vineyard block to Cloudy Bay for $5.5 million, and Cloudy Bay picked up another 8ha block for $1.9 million.
Cloudy Bay chief winemaker and director Kevin Judd said yesterday the company wanted to expand its sauvignon blanc production.
It had pulled out most of the 12ha block and replanted it in sauvignon blanc.
