Christchurch Casino will reopen next Thursday, more than three months after shutting.
"Great News. The Christchurch Casino will reopen to the public at 8pm on Thursday, May 26. We look forward to seeing you all on the night," the business announced on its website.
Nigel Morrison, chief executive of SkyCity Entertainment Group which owns half the business, was in China at the opening of the multibillion-dollar Galaxy Macau yesterday.
Morrison said last week that the Christchurch Casino reopening was imminent and damage from the February 22 earthquake was relatively minor. The venue would open in two phases.
Casino workers were told to take annual leave, redundancy or unpaid leave but Morrison said 380 people stayed on so finding enough people was not a problem.
At one stage, alternative sites were being discussed but Morrison was always upbeat about the property, confident it would not stay shut long.
