KEY POINTS:
Former New Zealand cricket star Chris Cairns has closed his fudge business.
Cairns got into the fudge trade in 1998 with 20 per cent of the business owned by his father Lance Cairns.
But yesterday Cairns Fudge closed its operation at Ferrymead, Christchurch, The Press reports today.
Ceire Doherty, the company's administrator, said she and two other staff were told three months ago the business was closing.
"Sales were going reasonably well; we just needed a bit more," she said.
Cairns, believed to be overseas, apparently wants to concentrate on business interests abroad.
"Chris was over in October and he told us then," said Ms Doherty. "He was brilliant about it. He was wonderful. He really is a great guy."
All three workers have found other employment.
