Workers have rejected pay cuts as the owners of McCain Foods in Feilding consider the future of the plant.
The company has said the potato-processing plant is underperforming and may have to close.
The Engineering, Printing and Manufacturing Union said a draft collective contract from the company would cut allowances, amounting to a pay cut of up to 20 per cent for most unskilled staff.
The company said a decision on the plant's future was about a month away.
