China's foreign exchange reserves jumped US$61.6 billion ($78.2 billion) in January to reach US$1.59 trillion, compared with US$1.53 trillion at the end of 2007, sources said on Wednesday.
The figures are likely to renew debate as to whether China is attracting new inflows of speculative money, because the increase is twice as great as January's trade surplus and foreign direct investment inflows.
