KEY POINTS:
A house built in Orewa to raise money for the Hibiscus Coast Hospice is being auctioned next week with the proceeds going to the charity.
Gary Hansen, a sales agent of Harcourts in Whangaparaoa, said the new, four-bedroom house would be sold on March 6.
All the funds would go towards a new in-patient unit the hospice needed.
He said a group of businessmen had been instrumental in the project.
Sir Ross Jansen, Leigh Hopper and Ian Boocock had donated the section.
Ross Morley, of GJ Gardner, arranged to have the house built at no cost to the hospice.
Morley also convinced more than 50 tradespeople and suppliers to donate the materials and skills needed for the house.
Hansen said new houses similar to the one being auctioned generally sold for between $400,000 and $750,000.
The house at 126 Grand Dr has a two-car garage as well as two bathrooms.
It is on a 600sq m section with living areas which face north.
Open homes are being held this week and next.
Construction of the house began in May and the keys were handed to the hospice in November.
Harcourts took on the task of organising the marketing, home staging and sale.
The auction will be run by Harcourts' national auction manager Phil McGoldrick, of Christchurch, at 6pm on site.
