New Zealand new car registrations totalled 6800 in August - up 6.6 per cent on July and 1 per cent higher than a year ago, Land Transport NZ says.
Used car registrations -- generally imported used cars -- totalled 11,319 last month, 2.3 per cent ahead of last month and 17.9 per cent up from a year ago, the government agency said in a statement today.
The combined tally of 18,119 was up 3.8 per cent on the previous month and 10.9 per cent higher than a year ago.
New commercial vehicle registrations during the month were 2087, 14.1 per cent down from a month earlier, but up 12.3 per cent from August 2006.
The top selling make in July was Toyota with 1052 new cars, followed by Ford with 957 new cars and Holden with 912.
