New car registrations rose 1.6 per cent to 5680 in October on the previous month, but were still 24 per cent lower than a year earlier.
Used car registrations - generally imported used cars - totalled 6044, up 2.1 per cent from September but 8.6 per cent down on a year ago.
The top-selling make in September was Toyota with 1775 new cars, followed by Holden with 660 and Ford with 645.
