Fonterra have been hot on the play for implementing technology throughout their grass to glass business value chain. Fencepost was an innovative project when it was introduced more than a decade ago, providing farmers with a suite of web-management applications - providing milk production and quality information, financial data and transaction tools.
Farmers have been fast adopters with new technology, breaking any outdated stereotypes to become the fastest group of people taking up smartphones in the country.
To keep up with their progressive supplier-base, Fonterra developed a mobile version of Fencepost - improving the accessibility for both farmers and providing a platform to share certain information with other members of their team.
"Fonterra launched the Fencepost app for our farmers in February," explained Carla McQueen, Digital Channel Manager at Fonterra.
"The nature of farming means farmers are often away from their computers, so they've really valued having this information on their smartphones."
