A fund for Maori housing has been given a $12.6 million boost in a pre-Budget announcement.
Maori Development Minister Te Ururoa Flavell said the new funding of $12.6 million over four years would bring the Maori Housing Network's funding to $17.6 million a year for Maori housing projects.
That network was set up last year to help fund Maori groups developing affordable housing in areas of high need, and improving current housing for Maori. That included funding for infrastructure such as roading, water, and sewerage systems on Maori land used for housing.
"The Maori Housing Network is about ensuring whanau have access to safe, secure and healthy homes which in turn improve their health and wellbeing."
Mr Flavell said since it was launched last October, the fund had been used to help build 42 affordable rental homes, repair the homes of 165 whanau and fund infrastructure on Maori land which was used for social and affordable housing and papakāinga housing for 113 whanau.
