Former Reserve Bank governor Alan Bollard returned to his old school yesterday to be inducted into the Mt Albert Grammar School Hall of Distinction.
Bollard, executive director of the secretariat of Apec, attended Mt Albert from 1964 to 1968. He was head librarian in his final year, was awarded a number of scholarships and was dux of the school. He also played rugby, but admitted in his speech yesterday this wasn't his strong suit.
"I was in the sixth-grade rugby team [and] played lock," he said. "I think we had about 100 points scored against us in the season, our total points for were six."
Bollard attended the ceremony with family including his wife, and several other old boys, as well as teachers from his year.
In his speech, he thanked his teachers who he said had been his inspiration.
