Nicholas Bain has been appointed chief executive of the New Zealand Intellectual Capital Foundation (NZInc), a trust set up as a catalyst for change.
NZInc is particularly concerned that New Zealand makes a quick transition to a knowledge-based and high-tech economy.
One of the programmes high on its agenda is the development of an incubator with Unitec.
NZInc is also trying to form a national incubator network.
Mr Bain's duties will also involve taking on a business development role for the NZ High Tech Council, of which NZInc is a member.
A solicitor with Bell Gully in the early 1980s, Mr Bain's career involved a variety of legal and investment banking roles in Britain.
On returning to New Zealand in 1996, Mr Bain worked in the video and film production industry.
Since 1998 he has been employed as an internet technology consultant, implementing strategic internet technology solutions for a variety of industry groups.
