Datacom edged out BankLink, Compac Sorting Equipment and Orion Health to win company of the year in the 2010 Hi Tech Awards. Nearly 600 members of the technology industry gathered at Auckland's Langham Hotel last night for the awards aimed at celebrating the success of New Zealand providers of high-technology products and services.
Judges described Datacom - which has more than 3000 staff in New Zealand, Australia and Southeast Asia - as a company that thought deeply about its customers and business model: "It's the largest New Zealand-owned company in the sector, and a revenue and profit machine."
Two new categories in the awards saw Microsoft named employer of choice and Compac Sorting Equipment exporter of the year. Herald columnist Anthony Doesburg beat the NBR's Chris Keall and Telecommunications Review's Sarah Putt to win the high-tech journalist award.
