McDonald's Corp celebrated its 50th birthday by opening a huge new fast-food outlet in its home city, Chicago. The celebration commemorated the opening of company founder Ray Kroc's first McDonald's on April 15, 1955, in the Chicago suburb of Des Plaines.
The new restaurant displays McDonald's memorabilia and high-tech wireless internet and instant photo printing.
The original McDonald's, called the Speedee Service System, opened in 1948 in San Bernardino, California, by brothers Richard and Maurice McDonald. Kroc later bought the McDonald brothers out.
